I wanted to share one of my recipes today, and it's my own! My daughter loves these, and it's vegetarian. I've been making them for a couple of years now, and I think this is my best version. They don't look pretty, but they are delicious! She eats them as a meal, and the amount that I buy is enough for at least two people. She started to enjoy Brussels Sprouts at Whole Foods, so I had to figure out how to make them tasty so that I would not have to buy them. The reason I use Poultry Seasoning is because it contains sage, rosemary, and oregano, and nutmeg. If you don't like one of those spices then substitute. I also use Trader Joe's Gold Aceto Balsamico di Modena ( It's a sweet balsamic grape vinegar almost a thin syrup from Italy, and probably someone else carries one as well.) It's a meal for non meat lovers or could be served as a side dish too.
It says: Butterfly and Bungalow's Brussels Sprouts Recipe
1/2 pound of Brussels Sprouts boiled for 15 to 20 minutes, allowed to cool, then halved lengthwise remove stem and removed outer leaf layer. (You can do this before, but it is easier after.)
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a saute pan. Add two crushed cloves of garlic.
Add the Brussels Sprouts and stir.
Add a tablespoon of Brown Sugar
A chopped not quite ripe peach
Add a handful of Dried Cranberries
Add a handful of chopped pecans
Add a quarter of teaspoon of poultry seasoning
Add two teaspoons of Trader Joe's Gold Aceto Balsamico di Modena
Salt to taste
I hope you enjoy!
I know it is an acquired taste for many.

Su...this sounds sooo good. I have always loved Brussels sprouts..my DIL roasts them with EVO and they are so delicious. Can't wait to try your recipe.
ReplyDeleteOh Mrs. T was talking about brussels sprouts this week. Her recipe is much different from yours. This would be a bridge too far for me, but I know a lot of folks enjoy this veg.
ReplyDeleteI know, Vee. They are too bitter for some. Some can't eat them, because they are allergic or sensitive to cruciferous vegetables. My spouse can't eat them either!
DeleteI just printed this out. My husband loves Brussels sprouts but I'm still searching for a recipe that will make me love them too! I'll have to be frozen peaches right now but I get the frozen organic ones so that should work. I love anything with cranberries in them, keep dried on hand and my freezer is stuffed with packs of fresh because I love them so much. Maybe toss a few of those in too?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. But you know the sweet and the sour could be great. The peach was tart, because it was not fully ripe, so it could work. Dried cranberries are sweet, because as they dry their sugar content increases. But I don't see why some sour ones would hurt. Sweet and sour. xoxo Su
DeleteThis looks delicious. I would not have thought of adding peaches, though I have made Brussels sprouts with dried cranberries in the past. Will have to give this a try if I can find a similar vinegar.
ReplyDeleteYum. Brussels sprouts are my all time fav veggie. I always buy them on their stock. I can easily eat a pound or more at one sitting. I steam them and then soak them in a bath of fresh garlic, Organic ACV and top with a bit of fresh Parmesan cheese and cracked pepper. Your version is more fancy and making me drool.
ReplyDeleteYour recipe sounds great too! xoxo Su
DeleteHi Su,
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so delicious. Loaded with so many good things for you too. Thanks for sharing. Happy Saturday.

My oldest daughter and I love Brussels sprouts, so I'll try it. It might be hard finding peaches this early, but I'll try! Something great to make when you have peaches that aren't quite ripe....I'm pinning this!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't pin it so I bookmarked it.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI pinned Sue, Thank YOU! We love brussels sprouts as well. Our son Sam loves them so much, he will eat as many as we allow. ;-)
Have you tried to grow them in your garden? I did one year, but I had a poor time of it. My mom on the other hand, she had great luck.
I like Brussel sprouts so I'm going to share your recipe with the head chef.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds lovely, Su...and I have a vegan and a vegetarian in the house who would go crazy for this dish. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest daughter and I love brussel sprouts! I will share this recipe with her. We are always trying different recipes with them, and this one looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing, Su. xo
