Our homes comfort between spaces of rituals and living.
Between the every day, it caters to the people in the home and garden.
Between the every day, it caters to the people in the home and garden.
When I look out our window this time of year I begin planning the cleaning and gardening. I always find it reassuring that the birds are nesting and tending families. With the weather so pleasant, an unscheduled tea in a charming teacup seems a perfect ritual.
In our nest there are papers, reading material, and music on tables: the products of living. So, I always try to keep a few spaces special. For instance, a petite bouquet reminds of beauty, whether its created by our hands from the garden or a gift to ourselves from the market.
This one came from the store, and it was only ten dollars. The plastic vase is reusable, and the perfect size for blossoms from our garden.
It is the people that make our homes.
After working in the garden in the early evening, this bouquet was just the right size to move where it could be admired beside an enjoyable cup of tea in a vintage teacup.

And here is the last harvest of the Meyer lemons and oranges gathered by my daughter:
some for tea, lemon butter and bars; some for the neighbor; and some for my sister.
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."
Marcel Proust

The lemons make my mouth water! There's nothing like the flavor and scent of a fresh lemon. We love having Florida citrus here to enjoy. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting today. I agree. xoxo Su
DeleteWhat a pretty post! I really love the sweetness of YOU in this post. Love Meyers lemons but we can't always get them here. I hope you have a wonderful night, Su! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Diana, for such a sweet comment. xoxo Su
DeleteBeautiful post as always Su. It is so great that you can grow your own lemons and oranges. Love your sweet flower arrangement in the vase too. Happy Tuesday.

Kris
Thank you so much, Kris. Have a wonderful week. xoxo Su
DeleteLovely post. I hate to see the end of the citrus season. It is so nice to be able to just go out to the garden and pick a lemon or an orange on a whim. We are really spoiled. LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I hate to see the end as well. Our grapefruits were so wonderful this year. We ran out of them first, because the tree makes less. Oh, they are so fresh and delicious. At least we can smell the blossoms for a bit. Have a lovely day. xoxo Su
DeleteYou have created such a beautiful home, Su. It's always such a treat to peek inside. I can only imagine that it must be a delight to actually live there. And lemons from the garden? Lucky you. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim, for your sweet visit. xoxo Su
DeleteWhat a nice explanation of keeping a home livable and special at the same time. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Barbara, for visiting and the sweet comment. Have a wonderful Day. xoxo Su
DeleteI like your line "it is the people who make our homes".
ReplyDeleteYesterday I met my son's mother-in-law for lunch. We try to catch up with one another between her travels around the world. Of course, our visit ran longer than we expected and when I entered the house I was struck by how quiet it was. Lulu and Steve were out for a walk and the house seemed overly quiet. The people, and pets, really do make a home.
That's very interesting observation. Yes, dogs do make a house a home too. My daughter commented on my sister and niece the other day. She noticed that when they leave our home, it is so quiet, because they are louder, high energy types, which excites the dogs. xoxo Su
DeleteOh Su, such lovely photos of your beautiful house. Our Meyer lemon season has come to an end in Minnesota too. That is the couple of weeks that we can find them in the stores.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lorri. It is such a nice lemon for cooking, and a short season I guess in the grocery store. I started picking them in December and finished up the other day, because it is beginning to bloom now and want the energy for new growth. xoxo Su
DeleteOh Su, I was so drawn in by that first photo! It is so beautiful and inviting. And then I was blown away by all those gorgeous lemons! Even though we still have mountains of snow, once we get more daylight (as we have now), I long for anything lemon. YUM! What a harvest you have! And are you left handed? :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Judy. Lemons look like sunshine don't they? No, I am not left handed, but I took note this morning. I tend to hold the teacup with both hands with the handle turned to the left. xoxo Su
DeleteBeautiful post,wonderful blue teacup...How inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. xoox Su
DeleteThat first picture is beautiful. I have those IKEA lacy scalloped curtains in my bedroom also. Every time I see your posts, I think - Good thing we don't shop together as we would both buy the same things. Ahh- vintage tea cups are simply the best for a cup of tea and my first choice also. Those lemons, I am jealous. Where do you live to have such a wonderful harvest at this time of year? Wish I had your green thumb. Such pretty flowers.
ReplyDeleteHi, Tomita, wouldn't that be funny! Those Ikea curtains were such a bargain when they had them. I also like that they could be cut to the length wanted. I live in Arizona. Thank you for visiting. xoxo Su
DeleteWhat a pretty teacup! I've always been partial to Aynsley cups and gold gilding!
ReplyDeleteWow! You sure know your teacups! I had to take a look. My daughter loves teacups too, but she is like you in that she knows the names. I am really drawn to a color or pattern usually English or French, but other than Limoge or Wedgwood, I usually can't identify them immediately. Have a great day! xoxo Su
DeleteSu, such a beautiful post. And I like that you make a few special spots while leaving most of the house for living - I've been in some homes where the lady of the house is so obsessed with making her house look like one in a magazine that it just leaves me cold!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. Have a wonderful day. xoxo Su
DeleteThe harvest of lemons and oranges is amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Magali. xoxo Su
DeleteHello Su, always beautiful here.
ReplyDeleteLove how you intertwine living with your everyday beauty. I so wish we grew Lemons well on our desert.., it’s the cold winters they don’t do well in. I’m hokng to keep a tree warm on my porch this winter and see how it does.
Your bowl of lemons invite a lingering stay here, admiring the beauty and wondering how beautifully scented your kitchen must be?
A beautiful weekend ahead of you dear.
Xx
Dore
Thank you so much, Dore. They do have a wonderful smell, but the trees give an aroma that is even better this time of year. Thank you so much for stopping by, and always for the encouragement and expertise. xoxo Su
DeleteSu, this post is so charming and delightful. I love the lemons! I miss having citrus trees. Your home seems so peaceful. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, RJ. Yes. If I ever had to live without them, I would miss them. xoxo Su
DeleteSu... you truly live a life of dreams... or at least it seems that way. It makes me strive for more beauty in my home. I think there will be a bouquet of flowers coming home with me from the store today ;)
ReplyDeletexo,
rue
Thank you so much, Rue. Well, I think the same when I visit your home. I think my daughter and yours would get along. Though she is a few years younger, she has also picked up the love of vintage and antiques. xoxo Su
DeleteBeautiful and serene images. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend.

How long do your lemons keep? Do you have to hurry and use them?
Hi, Carla. They will keep a couple of weeks at the right temperature. Have a wonderful week. xoxo Su

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Bernideen. My spouse makes a nice lemon curd and last year he even made a jam that was great with chicken. xoxo Su
