Garden Tour

The she shed art studio is getting lots of use, and that is paint splatter on the desk.
It's such a wonderful space for creativity.

a spent rose....

Over here in this side of the yard, the aloe is in bloom.

The birds love the feeder that looks like a miniature she shed.

This is a large yard for this part of the country;
it's under 8000 square feet, but more than 7500 square feet, and
we have it divided into areas.  Otherwise in the summer it would just be a hot miserable space with no grass and not enough shade. You can see that the hill just beyond my neighbor's cottage is already brown.

This table is in the shade outside the she shed.

I mix the annuals in with the vegetables, because it helps with pollination.

So the garden beds are planted, the citrus are full and blooming, and
we can enjoy the space in the mornings and evenings.
I'm letting the citrus grow low to the ground to protect the bark from the heat, and it will bear more fruit when they are young.

Staked tomatoes... Mint in the foreground...

I like mirrors and lanterns in a garden. Behind that gate is a storage area.

In this photo, one can see how much everything has grown since last spring, and here are some video sounds from the weekend and more photos here.

Thank you for visiting.

  9. Such a lovely garden, and so cleverly arranged. I don't know that I could cope with the heat you have! But you've considered it so wisely and I'm sure your garden will continue to flourish because of it.

    1. Thank you, Sarah. I doubt you could. Come summer, I really don't like it myself, but the remainder of the year is beautiful. I don't think, I could live where it is cold. I do like a milder climate, but this is where family lives. xoox Su

    1. Thank you, Jean. That's the lot size, but the house is small, so there is a lot of space. In my opinion, a desert lot is easier than a grassy one, but we do have to keep down the weeds and Bermuda grass. A lawn is a lot of care. They don't do well here without a lot of care. xoxo Su

  20. Hi Su, I found your blog over Bernideen's Tea Time, Cottage and Garden Blog Party and I was happy to see another blogger doing a garden tour. I wonder where you are gardening, since many of your plants can be grown in San Diego where I live and garden as well. Love your citrus trees. To plant one is on my wish list for the future!

  21. So many lovely little nooks and seating areas, Su. I can imagine enjoying my morning cuppa surrounded by lovely scents and bird song and sweet evenings with gentle breezes under the stars. Love all your pretty accents and plantings. I used to live in Tucson - one of my favorite places :)

    1. Thank you, Beatrice. I use to live in Tucson too many years ago. I think the weather is better there. I actually like the summer there, because it is a few degrees cooler and a breeze comes in around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and cools things off. When my daughter was young, I've spent part of the summers there.

    1. Thank you, Magali. I really enjoy gardening. Desert gardening is very different than other places. It will never be lush at these altitudes, but eventually the trees will grow in a few years and provide shade for plants underneath. xoxo Su
