Christmas on the Sleeping Porch

One room at a time this year. A vintage tinsel tree and some of our dried garden roses accompany a Santos with a bird in her crown. The raj teapot is from RH when they had one little store in Mill Valley. The store had hardware on the wall and one could open a drawer or cupboard and make a selection, now it's mostly catalogue. Isn't that sort of funny? My parents said they grew up with catalogues, and now, we do the same again.

This is a great spot to snuggle with a book, and sometimes it works as a guest room for family.
I keep this room natural and whimsical.

I kept this tree mostly undecorated except for the glittered stars and glittered pinecones.

The cloth on the table is actually a scarf made of linen and handmade lace from Burano, Italy, but I'm using it as a table runner here.

This room is one of my favorites. The ever evolving drawings and garlands are mine, and I made a jingle bell one too, but I have no idea where it is. I recall wrapping it carefully into a plastic bag so that it would not tangle, but the rest is a mystery.
Most of the fun pillow shams and slipcovers are handmade by someone local.
Our laundry machines are in here, and it is also a project room, because there is a desk and a table.

This is an old wooden bread bowl that I found in a shop years ago, before they were popular.

By the way, the garland on the table is from Judy at 20 North Ora's giveaway: Tree Classics. I  noticed that it is a good brand too. I dressed it by adding clementines and pinecones. It lights, but I need an extension cord. Just to note, the wreath on the armoire is real, so the garland's color is realistic. It looks pretty near the Burano handmade lace.

The rest of the Christmas cottage is here and the Nativity.

  12. Su just like BJ I have always loved your sleeping porch and want one too. Your choice of natural and whimsical has magical allure. I love your pillow with the Rose Pom poms, the lace is ethereal mixed in with your Christmas décor. Me too with wrapping carefully and then poof disappears to not be found! I hope your jingle bell garland shows up soon in time for your Christmas merriment.

  20. I've enjoyed noticing all the little details in this room. I love the muted colours and eclectic mix of treasured items. I dry roses and display them as they look so pretty at any time. I love your matching rose cushion, the lace, the greenery, the teapot. I could go on..... There's nothing better than browsing in a store and seeing items for real. Wishing you and your family a blessed Christmas and a good new year.

  32. I realized after thinking about how much I loved your smaller trees placed around the house that I should adopt this. My little house is so small I cannot put up even the smallest tree - and I did try - but found the one little container tree I bought really made it feel official. Next year I am going to get a couple to put in the different rooms to spread the holiday feeling. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you, Cindy. The temperature on the porch is wonderful all year round now. I don't even need AC. When we replaced the roof, we put the thickest foam roof over it. It's amazing. I wish we had done the same for over my spouse's office and potting shed, but we had no idea how effective it would be. xoxo Su
