Autumn Mantel

This is our Madhatter Library, and it even has vintage chairs. I've shared it before. We had a dinner party last week, so the mantel was rearranged with fresh flowers for festivities. The galvanized bucket with the bumble bee is second hand; the rabbit's portrait is from Venice; the antlers are glittered; and there's even a wizard's wand. One never knows who might be visiting.

The lavender colored mums last long and the same for the the cranberry colored flowers...  much longer than the roses...  I was in love with the way the separate bunches of colors mixed when placed together.

Over here there are a few nuts from the grocery store and a pinecone. The pine cone is not from around here:) The little silver box has been around for years, and it's from a second hand store as well. The squirrel was a gift.

Bits of nature look so pretty together. Shells, pinecones, nuts, flowers, fallen antlers... The antlers fall off deer, but these came from the same shop as the bucket.

There is a dressmaker form... It seems right for a  Madhatter.

Over here is a wreath that was ten dollars. Hard to believe...
It came from a beautiful shop called the French Bee where it's usually hard to find anything for ten dollars, but it was clearance day. Inside the cupboard is a crown for tea parties and the rabbit's bust wearing glasses.

Thank you for visiting and your lovely thoughts.
Su

The previous post is a walk in Paris, and the one before that is a repainted side table inspired by color from Burano, Italy.

  5. Well done! Your mantel is beautiful. I like to replace faded flowers in bouquets with fresh ones. It extends how long you enjoy the flowers that are still going strong.

  13. Su,
I remember when you posted on the Manhatters library and I fell in love with your room. The vintage pair of chairs with men's wear upholstery (at least in my mind's eye it was fabric like that) the bell on the table for the dormouse - loved everything. So seeing those gorgeous orange roses and the enchanting rabbit portrait from Italy (wow I love it) I imagine sitting on one of those chairs smiling like a Cheshire cat. Love your gifted copper squirrel nutcracker. I have one I purchased from Crate and Barrel at least 10 years ago with a polished Nickel finish and I love bringing him out in Fall with a bowl of nuts and reluctantly putting him away for the warmer months. Oh Su what an enchanting mantel.
    xoxo,
    Vera

    1. Thank you so much, Vera. Rituals are so important. I love this time of year, because we can do so many. This gift was one that my spouse selected for my daughter. The chairs do look like men's fabric, because they have a tiny stripe, almost a pin stripe running through them. And you can feel or be a Cheshire cat, Alice, a rabbit, a Madhatter etc in this room. It's all part of the magic. xoxo Su

  14. I know that roses don't last as long as many other flowers, but the color of those roses with the lavender and cranberry colors are gorgeous for a fall mantle! A lovely vignette with so many sweet little pieces. Have a wonderful upcoming weekend! Blessings, Cindy xoxo
