We spent almost four weeks in Italy, and a little over a week in Paris. When my daughter finished her studies and playing, we took the overnight train from Venice through Switzerland to Paris. It was quite the adventure. We had a sleeper car all to ourselves. At that point we became a group of three because my spouse joined us.
This is one of the restaurants in the Musee D' Orsay; the museum that houses much of the impressionist collection. In my opinion, it's the most beautiful restaurant dining room that I have ever seen. It was recently redone in 2013-2014. The chairs are by Edra and designed by the Italian artist Jacopo Foggini. It is a new technique, and they remind me of murano glass, but I think they are a polycarbonate.
The rainbow hued chairs are a stunning contemporary contrast to the ornate gilded splendor of this dining room's walls and murals painted by Gabriel Ferrier in 1900 and the older plainer parquet floors. Yet, they are perfect.
Beautiful...
The dining room serves French cuisine. I'm sorry to say that we tried to use our French in Paris, but everyone quickly goes to English, which is the opposite of my experience 25 years ago. The French speak English really well.

Welcome home Su, you've been missed. I love the restaurant and the choice of unique chairs that light up like gem stones. I also love how they took the ceilings paintings and tied it into the menu. Which I hope one of those pretty menus came home with you. Rest and come back and share your daughters studies and all your adventures with us.

What an enchanting place to visit. I am totally in love. Such magnificent beauty and craftmanship. I did not make it to The Musee d'Orsay when I visited Paris but I did manage to see enough to make me fall in love with Paris.

ReplyDeleteWelcome back. It's wonderful to see you blogging again. I adore that beautiful restaurant and those chairs... Wow! Everything about that room was truly breathtaking... :)
ReplyDeleteThat room is incredible, Su! I'll bet the food was too ;)
ReplyDeleteI've always heard that the French wouldn't speak English, but maybe it's changed because they read about everyone complaining about it since the internet was born lol
Glad you had a fun and safe trip :)

Well maybe in Paris... I suspect it would be different if we spent time in the countryside. In Italy, except for the German area of the alps, I use my Spanish quite a bit. I can get by with Spanish in Italy, because it is close enough to Italian. In the German part, people speak some English and some do quite well.
DeleteWelcome back and thank you for sharing your gorgeous photos with us! The murals are spectacular and the chairs sparkle like jewels!
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous! Those chairs are amazing. Welcome home!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

Those chairs are amazing. Both this post and your latest are making me miss and long to go back to France. I hope you had a magical trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it was such a wonderful and beautiful trip. We got around fine, things were flaring up a bit at the trains, so we did not get to England, but we had a fantastic time anyway!
DeleteI agree on the chairs! If we had the room, my daughter and I agree that we would love one to pair with her French secretary desk. She likes a bit of modern and color.
Thank you for visiting. I'm going to start catch up on visiting. xoxo Su
Oh le restaurant is beautiful and what a treat just to set there and admire the surroundings.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a trip others dreams about, I was recently in Paris however just a short time
