It's Just Thursday

In this bucket, are some beautiful simple blossoms from my spouse. May is a lovely month: mothers, Mary, Cinco de Mayo, graduations, the beginning of summer... just naming a few occasions to celebrate.

As we have settled into this smaller home and fixed it up, we have slowly edited, and even though it is a small home, it is satisfying, because this space is more reflective of who we are. This home was in disrepair, and we could make it our own.

I've learned that I love repairing old homes, even more than building, because it's a slower pace with more flexibility.

It was easy to find the home's soul. It may be a funny thing to say, but spaces have energy.

And in case you missed what I did with the table that I painted, the faux metal top table is in my potting shed, which we are now using for crafting and painting too, and the process that I used to soften the sheen of the flower bucket is here.

I changed the format on my newer posts. One can click "read more" to read more, but the trick is to just click on "comment". You can then read the entire post (by scrolling up) and comment at the same time.

Thank you for visiting.
And Happy Mother's Day, if I don't post before.
xoxo
Su

  5. Su, I've said it before, but you home is gorgeous! You have placed the important things in your home and made it so beautiful. I imagine your family loves being in this space you've created for them! We are getting ready to downsize and will probably be using some of your ideas as inspiration! Have a wonderful evening!

Your husband did good ... simply beautiful flowers. I agree about an old fixer upper, you get to build in your personality and truly create a space of home sweet home. I adore your home, yours is one of beauty to embrace.

  8. I love the bucket that you have been using for flowers! What a great yet simple piece! Of course the flowers are beautiful and sweet of your hubby to bring them for you! That is something I miss, I never get fresh flowers with hubby passed! I should buy them for myself, but never remember to! Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Mother's Day! Blessings, Cindy

    1. Hi, Joy. I'm sorry...The best place to find flowers is Trader Joe's.They were only 3.99. He bought these and then he saw roses for a dollar more, so I have two containers of flowers. xoxo Su

  10. I know just what you mean about houses having different feelings...when we moved into our new place, so many of my olden furniture pieces fit and a lot just didn't...I am about to get it feeling better but I still have a few things that AREN'T right and it is making me crazy...
Your flowers, bucket and house is just precious.

  11. We have always lived in older homes, but this is the first home that I felt has soul. The others were 1950's tract houses and this is a 1927 individual design. I doubt that we will ever be finished with it, but that's okay!

I absolutely LOVE your style and what you are doing with your home.

For the longest time I've yearned for something newer.
    Not new, just newer.
But recently I've started to find comfort and peace in the home I have.
This year it turns 100 years old (and some days I think it will take me that long to finish all my home projects!)
    Happy Mothers Day to You!

  29. I always love visiting your blog. I especially admire your eye and consistency. I struggle with this. For a long time I have been cultivating a heavy on the white and pink, shabby decor. When I started art journaling my love of vibrant colors and wild design elements was unleashed. Now I don't know how to meld these parts of myself. I'm working on it.

Love the new blog header. It speaks to my heart. As did the comment that spaces have energy.

Happy Mother's Day, Su. Thanks for inspiring me.

    1. Thank you, Lynda, for the sweet visit. Maybe a mix of shabby and boho would work for you, because that is sort of shabby with vibrant colors. Have you seen Annie Sloan's new book? I don't know if they have it at the library, but the photos are really interesting Pinterest also has many ideas. I hope you had a wonderful day. xoxo Su
