Some Thoughts on Living

I didn't choose a word for the year, but maybe it is beauty.

old favorite bergere chair,

old throw, and old concrete floor... Do you have a favorite chair?

All of us create in different ways whether that be with words, projects, poetry, photos, art, and so on; there is a place for everyone.   I usually don't write much here, and prefer to share photos. I also choose not to show mess, unless I hope to inspire others that one can start from scratch.  I prefer beauty. The world has enough ugly and evil that I prefer this space to be peaceful and whimsical.

I have discovered that dried wreaths can last a year, sometimes a bit more, and
I  love shells, because there is little or no cost.

If I could write beautiful thoughts I would, but photos and a few words here and there are more my style. However, I sometimes forget that there are experiences that we love: ballet, classical music, art, literature, learning to garden, and so on. Since it is my opinion that beauty begins at home and in our neighborhoods and places of worship, I will try to remember to mention once in awhile  or photograph what we are listening to, what is being read, cooking, and so on.

Spouse's Reading

My Side

I recently missed out again on filming my daughter playing Chopin, Shostakovich, and a Mozart piano concerto played here by Mitsuko Uchida. A parent was so kind to film one of the pieces and sent it to us!  Parents cannot film at competitions, but at award programs and recitals cameras are allowed.  At this level most parents' have a nice picture/sound setup. So my husband spoke to our neighbor, a camera expert, and now we have a camera with a boom to record next time.
I'm really excited about learning how to  use this  camera.
The cameras are so advanced with a boom attachment that they are replacing recorders.

I was also featured at A Joyful Cottage.  I forgot to mention one idea I had about old cottages or old homes.  Don't be afraid to move to a place where homes are being fixed.  Sometimes it just takes one or two persons to repair and then it starts a renewal on the street. A couple of years ago most of the homes in our neighborhood needed curb appeal, now probably 3/4s look good.

  5. Oh yes, me being a gather of WORDS I so get your kind of beauty placement. I also surround myself as to what I believe to be useful or beautiful. Your thoughts, your inspirations intrigue all here. As for your muted tones of colour it's just beautiful, I have been wanting to add some worn down tones in my home, adding cozy old-ness to my daughters and my home life of comfort, and I have a mix of planked floors, tile, and painted cements and as you find comfort from the ugliness out there in the world we over here agree with you so rightly.

It's always a beautiful place here to visit, as well as inspire the soul.

Thank you beautiful for visiting me and adding to my days of joy.

    See you soon.

  8. You do have a beautiful home, but more than that, you have an eye for beauty - how to arrange objects that makes them more beautiful together than they even were separately.

  10. Beauty??? Yes the perfect word for you in 2015. I have found more beauty and inspiration in your photo essays and minimal use of words than most blogs. You transcend beyond just words describing pretty objects and things you have attached to your heart that bond emotionaly with your followers/readers. I thank you for a genuine and honest blog.
Yes me too with a favorite chair... Mine is in the sitting room designed in 1929 - LC4.

  12. I couldn't agree more that the world is full of ugliness and evil, and there is a biblical standard for beauty. We learned in Shelley's American History curriculum that the Puritans were called to work hard and incorporate beauty into their homes…and their homes are truly described as lovely based on primary history sources!

I love your blog, and I can't wait to see what you post this year.

    1. Anne, I usually order my wreath from Williams Sonoma, but I found this one in Home Goods for 30, which is a lot less. It was not as fresh, but it will still last a good 9 months in my estimation from past wreaths. I don't know if they have that store in Canada.

  20. Just finished my morning quiet time and meditation with the Lord, and then came here. The perfect place to rest my eyes and ponder Beauty, which is something I want to focus on more this year. 22. I just read your post on small house living. We moved from 2600 sf to 1200 and then started a total reno. I love the smaller size, character home that is slowly revealing itself to us as we move from one room to the next. When we first saw it, it was yelling loud and clear to me what it needed. Love your home and your lovely, thoughful post today. Perfectly said! Patty/NS
