From the Kitchen

Can we just skip to December? Everyone has been so busy, and I am really looking forward to the gatherings of the holidays and Friday.

Small Kitchen Organization

In my small kitchen of 84 square feet, my family's favorite snacks were on the island in various bags, and it was getting so messy. I didn't take a photo, but my home gets messy like most lived in homes. I've wanted to do something about it for a month or two, and the other day I found this wooden tray at Target, and it looked perfect for the island. The tray also gave me something to do with these three Ikea jars that are 3 dollars each.

I filled them with the foods that disappear the most.
Pistachios, dried cranberries, and golden raisins.

Just five pictures of the same thing...

(I can see I need a new small camera again.  It has not been right since it was dropped in Venice.)

I'm going to try this out for awhile. Do you have a particular system of handling snacks?

  3. Nice tray, let us know how this works out for your family. Personally I enjoy the hectic pace from Halloween leading into Christmas. I am speaking of the energy and good cheer wishes not all the need and panic to accomplish work for the big day ;-)

  5. Such a pretty idea. Your kitchen is so lovely. I keep our nuts and dried fruits in mason jars with wide mouths for easy use, much like your ikea jars. But I so like how you have them in the tray. xxo

  7. I will admit that for awhile I had a slight obsession with trays. I still love them but decided that I cannot buy anymore. Yours is fabulous and practical. I think I was missing the "practical" side of my tray obsession. :)

  11. I have to comment on that blue refrigerator! I love it! I always have baskets of fruit out, but I like your idea of everything together in a tray. Jars like that are great for dried fruit and nuts. (thanks for your visit!)

  14. That fridge! So dreamy. I love the Christmas season...the tree, the lights, the snow...for about a day then I wish it would just magically melt on its own the next day. We have way too much snacks here and not enough space. We don't have enough counter space and if I put a large enough kitchen island then there is no space to even walk around. I love the tray and jars idea. That Ikea gets me every time.

  19. Was the Target tray a recent purchase?

We keep all our snacks - dried fruit and nuts, in a plastic box in the cupboard. Of course, it is just the 2 of us. But, we have no counter space to have anything sitting out.

  28. Pretty pics and good solution. I can sympathize with both small space and lived in / messy especially after the grand kids have been here :)

  29. We keep whole grains and nuts on our counter, in containers. They're clear with black lids, all the same, so they look okay. I'd rather they were glass instead of plastic, but for now it works. Other things like dried cranberries and whole grain crackers are in a cupboard. Fresh fruit is in a basket on the counter. I like your solution. But then, I like your entire kitchen and everything in it. xxx ~ Nancy

  30. I forgot about how much I LOVE your kitchen - that fridge melts my heart every time I see it.
I keep all snacks out of site or I'd never stop eating ( which I barely do as it is lol )
But I do keep fruit on the island -
And my avocados always sit in wine glasses on the counter - in fact we just had a conversation about that which I've recorded for a future blog post LMHO
Your tray is beautiful - love the idea !

    1. Thank you, so much. I love my refrigerator too, and so glad they make something small. GE now makes one called the GE Artistry series. They are larger than SMEG. I saw one a couple a weeks ago in a scratch and dent store. Oh my! It was too big for my potting shed. :( (My old 12 yo GE refrigerator was in there and it died. Summer temps are hard on things here.). I subsequently priced them out as new out of curiosity. Great prices. Much better price point than the three other brands out there. It would still never fit in my tiny kitchen, but I love them. They come in green, black, blue, red etcetera I saw one in a shiny black or eggplant color, now that I'm looking at it online. I was instantly in love. Gosh even my potting shed was too small! No worries, I found a regular fridge that did fit. I like having extra freezer space that's why I've kept one in my shed. xxoxo
