Birthday Tea Party

Circus Themed Birthday Tea Party

We celebrated my niece's 10th birthday with a circus themed tea party that was a bit vintage, a bit Ikea, and a bit nature.

In preparation for my niece's tea party, my daughter and I were inspired by Vintage Cakes by Julie Richardson,  images on Pinterest, and Thoughts From Alice's Whimsical Woodland Deer Cake.  We are mainly interested in how cakes look, because  for everyone to eat cake, my spouse had to bake from scratch a gluten-free, lemon-filled birthday cake.

We came up with the idea to make one of our buntings and personalize it with my niece's name.  We attached the bunting to skewers hidden with straws.  Such whimsy!

We used what we had around the home.
The cake plate, linens, bucket, and the Mexican, millagro cross
 are from vintage stores.
The bear on the cake was mine from a long time ago.
The print and glasses are available at Ikea.
The plates were a Christmas gift from Anthro.
The shells are from shell shops on our trips.
The wood is from our old cactus.
It's a mix of old, new, and crafted...

Linens...Poodle in a hula hoop... Clown on a unicycle... a Juggler... a ballerina... and the fish looks like a conductor with a graduation cap?

I made the wreath.

For this tea party, we moved in the metal stools, and my daughter had the idea to put the doily on the stool for the birthday girl.

We had  Ikea's dot glasses for ice tea, because the temperature is in the 80s.

My spouse used this basic yellow cake recipe ,but he substituted the flour with this gluten-free flour mix .  He also made lemon curd, but most lemon curd recipes naturally have no gluten, and the same thing applies to homemade frosting.

Thank you, for your sweet comments and visits.♡

  1. so lovely, so different.
Question: is gluten-free the same as wheat-free?
Observation: I have a white table very similar to yours; the skirt below the table top is a little different.
    Per usual, beautiful photos.
Thank you for the pleasure of being able to look and read your blog.

    1. Thank you, Beadhen. I found the table at a vintage store. It was already painted, but it had so much wax, that I removed it, and then painted it Annie Sloan French Linen. (It wasn't hard to remove the wax. They had put so much on that it melted in the heat here. It was like grease. It's on the porch and there is no AC there; it's three seasons, excluding the summer.)

Not exactly. Some people only have a wheat allergy. There are a lot of foods that contain gluten that are not wheat. The mayoclinic org has a good list. One person is sensitive, everyone else eats normally here. For example, malt is a wheat product and sometimes it is soda, and definitely in beer.
♡ I hope your day is a good one. xoxo

  3. What a beautiful setting for the birthday party.

The first memory I have of my birthday parties was my 5th birthday when my mother did a circus theme.

    2. The birthday cake and surrounding decor would make any little girl happy. Our granddaughter just turned 10, and it seems to be the first stage of leaving the toys behind and becoming a young lady.
