Small Cool Kitchens 2013

Today, my kitchen was selected and posted by "The Kitchn" on Apartment Therapy.
Earlier today, I embedded the link in my previous post of a different day,
but I don't think anyone saw it.

There was a contest for small kitchens and one of my blogger friends told me about it and suggested I enter.

I'm in good company there; one is likely to recognize other great kitchens.  But if you are so inclined to favorite my kitchen, please sign up and favorite it,
so I have a chance to win the kitchen tools.
Thank you.  Click on Susan's Country Glam Kitchen.

In case you are unfamiliar with our story we did most of the design and work ourselves.
And because we did the work, the kitchen was a bargain in today's market.

Here's a photo  I took tonight.

Those are some plates I found.
I don't often purchase plates except for replacing my everyday ones, because I have too much China, and I have had an obsession with bowls. But I ordered a gift from PB kids and the order came with a ten dollar gift card to PB.  In order to use it, I only had to spend one dollar.  So this evening, I visited the sale table at our local store, and found these dishes marked down from 50 dollars to 19 dollars, but with my ten dollar gift card and tax I only paid $10.57 !!!  The plates have the colors of my living room rug.

Small Cook Kitchens

Here is our kitchen in the day.  It's a sweet little kitchen.
In case one is wondering where the "Country Glam" came from,
that title was chosen by the editor.

  6. Susan, that is so exciting that you were also chosen! I am glad I suggested this to you because I knew you were a slam dunk to be selected. Yes, the competition is stiff. Also, it's hard to say what the Apartment Therapy readers like in general. They do go for a lot of the modern or mid-century look. I have decided that I am not going to look where my kitchen is ranked for another week. I was checking way too much, and then it gets to be too much of a personal thing! (ie. Do they like my kitchen and style? Do they like me?) The top rental kitchen is in my daughter's neighborhood in Minneapolis. Good luck to us both, and we can surely be happy that our little kitchens were chosen to be part of this competition no matter what the outcome! :)

    1. You are doing great on there!!! I think in the top ten!!! A lot of style in Minneapolis.

Thanks for the recommendation, Linden townhouse. I agree, the fun is getting selected. I hesitated entering because I don' have a lot of computer savvy people to vote; they don't get the blog and they hardly ever use Facebook. A couple already told me they could not figure it out; my parents are older and interestingly, so are a lot of my friends.

    2. Yes, that has been a critique about the AT Small Kitchen Voting--Sometimes those who are very involved in social media get lots of votes because they have so many Facebook and Twitter "friends." I am not on either of those social forums so could not count on that. That is why, at the end of the contest, the judges do have a say in the finalist selection, just to even the playing field a bit. Anyway, it's all just kind of a lark to me! (smile) Your kitchen looks beautiful at the AT site, and I like what you wrote too. I have also given you a "favorite." Best wishes, Susan!

    3. Likewise, and thank you. Best wishes. Your little kitchen is super pretty. I LOVE it.

I entered one other competition and lost as a finalist :( Even though it hit the magazine concept, I figured that perhaps it didn't fit the magazine's target audience. That's okay.

Don't you think, it's just cool being able to pull it together with the spouses!? The budgets alone are amazing!

    1. Thank you, Lauren. They do have great ideas for smaller homes! Our home is little too only 1100 square feet, but I have a front and back porch, and some "rooms" off the carport, so it seems larger than it is.

  19. I have never seen a hammered copper (?) kitchen sink before - very cool. I thought I had put you in my reading list but I have missed several of your lovely entries. Will fix that promptly :)

  20. Susan, I absolutely love the look of this kitchen. No surprise that it was featured. Although that is such an attractive copper sink, I think my favorite photo is the last one - with the stove and refrig. I think the refrig in our house when I was a kid looked like that. And I also really like the fact that the appliances don't match. Tastefully, delightfully done.

    1. Thank you, Cranberry Morning. I agree about the refrigerator side.

The refrigerator is a kick with its retro look and it is larger inside than it looks. We read the instructions on how to open it, but all the older people ( maybe just ten or 15 years older) know how to open it; they put one hand on it and one hand on the door. Anyone younger we had to show. LOL
