Courtyard

Courtyards

I love courtyards!  I don't have one here, but I had one at my former home.  They are popular on
Mediterranean (Spanish-influenced) and Pueblo-Revival, Territorial-Revival, and Southwest-Contemporary.

It was a dreamy spot for us, and for the owls that nested and perched along the walls in the vines, the quails that made nests in my pots, and red-breasted finches.

A sentinel, male quail watching his covey.

I designed the gate and the door and had them made.

I painted the furniture.

The fountain created such a nice sound.
The saltillo tile was layed upside down to look old.

It was a peaceful spot to rest.

  1. It sounds yummy. I am a huge courtyard fan... My Hubbs is from Hawaii where courtyards are the norm. I've always dreamed of having one.. but they're not allowed in our community. Darn.

    Blessings,
    Spencer

  5. I feel really dumb...I love the concept but not sure I know what defines a courtyard. ;) From the images, I do love it! Makes me want to see more.

    1. It is an outdoor room, usually in front of the home. It has walls on four sides and a gated or door entrance.
